Since February 2022, at least 345 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) who surrendered on the battlefield have been reportedly executed by Russian military personnel, according to statements from Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets. This grim revelation raises significant concerns not only about war crimes but also about the role of digital technology in documenting such abuses and ensuring accountability.

Lubinets detailed that these executions were captured on video, with Ukrainian soldiers surrendering by laying down arms and raising their hands, yet still being shot at point-blank range. "All Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered were shot despite clear signs of surrender, and these actions constitute war crimes under international law," Lubinets stated.

It ensures transparency and supports investigations by international bodies like the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which verified the deaths of 375 Ukrainians confirmed as POWs and civilians subjected to torture and abuse while in captivity.
