Approximately 6,000 residents of the city were left without electricity after damage to a key energy facility, according to local energy providers.
Infrastructure Targeted in Escalating Conflict
Dmitry Bryzhinsky, head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration, reported the strikes on Telegram, noting that details on casualties are still being verified. The Chernihiv City Council confirmed multiple drone impacts on industrial and infrastructure sites, including a fire at one industrial location.
"The city was subjected to a massive drone attack, resulting in hits at several critical infrastructure points," the council stated, emphasizing that information is preliminary and under review.
The local energy company, Chernihivoblenergo, announced via social media that emergency restoration work would commence once safety conditions allow, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by repair crews.
Recurring Disruptions to Energy and Transportation Services
This attack follows a series of similar strikes targeting the region’s energy infrastructure. On April 6, about 340,000 customers in Chernihiv, Pryluky, and surrounding districts lost power after a Russian strike hit an energy facility in the Nizhyn district.
Earlier, on March 21, the entire city of Chernihiv experienced a blackout due to attacks on the oblast’s energy infrastructure. Critical and social facilities switched to backup power sources, while the Ukrainian railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, warned of train delays caused by the electrical outages.
Notably, Chernihiv faced a full blackout on October 21, 2025, after drone strikes by Russian Shahed unmanned aerial vehicles damaged power assets. Similarly, on October 8, 2025, over 4,500 residents in Nizhyn lost electricity due to Russian shelling.
